Instructions

1) Download the compiled assembly  and save it in the desktop "as is",  in zip form.

2) Launch  NinjaTrader, and in its  Control Center go to File->Utilities->Import NinjaScript and browse to select the downloaded zip folder. The strategy and all  indicators needed  will be installed automatically. Please write down any error message you get on installation, it will speed up debugging eventual problems.

3) To launch the strategy you must be connected to your broker and have ChartTrader disabled on the DAX chart .

4) If not already present, open a FDAX  6 Renko chart.

5) Right click on the chart, choose Strategies, pick Relax, click New, modify the parameters  according to your trading style (see point 17 below), and click ok.

6) We  recommend to restart NinjaTrader before trading every day to clean up the caches and reset all data and connections.

7) You will notice four buttons at the top of the chart, next to the Toolbar icons. The first one shows the strategy name and is described in point 20 below. The TRADING button means that the strategy is enabled to take trades and the NEWS MANAGER on means it is active. The last one, CLOSE ALL POSITIONS is off, it  is an "emergency" button to close immediately  all open positions and suspend trading. You can check the status of those buttons by running the mouse over them, a brief message will describe their status.

8) The strategy is always running when loaded, but it might be taking trades or not depending on your settings.

9) We recommend running the strategy in SIM accounts until you are comfortable with both understanding its operation and  getting consistent  performance. If you do not understand a feature, ask us!

10) The text in the bottom left of the chart shows the accumulated PnL (Profit and Loss) since the first bar in the chart, and the current daily PnL . Above it, if the strategy entered a trade, will show the current  position (Long or Short), the entry  and  current prices, and the in-trade PnL so far.

11) The rules for the strategy entering  a trade are simple: color agreement between the 4 rows of dots (all 4 green for long, all 4 red for short), and not being in a News Zone, and being in a Trade Time zone, and not having reached the daily profit target or stop loss. Account balance should be large enough to support the number of contracts traded (we recommend trading no more than  2 simultaneous contracts until you are familiar with the platform/strategy). Please consult with your broker the margin requirements.

12) The rules for the strategy exiting a position are even simpler: current bar closing on the "wrong side" (below if long, above if short) of the VLine, or having reached the profit target or stop loss, or approaching a News Zone, or entering a No Trade Time Zone. The most common occurrence will be the first one, the strategy is designed to  let the market take us out of a position, we do not use artificial trailing stops. As long as we are in the right side of a trend we want to stay in it for as long as we can; if the retracement is large enough to get us on the wrong side of VLine  (or if the "rally" stalls allowing the VLine to "catch up" with the prices) the strategy closes the position and waits for the next opportunity.

13) You may choose up to 3 trading time zones (in your local time); this is a personal and geographical preference, the general rule being to avoid thinly traded hours (usually associated with lunch time in the regions of the world that "control" the DAX, that is Europe or US)  and a few minutes near market open and close due to the wild fluctuations created by very large volume and probable market manipulation. You may choose to let the strategy run all the time, with News Manager taking care of suspending trading during dangerous news zones. The trade zones chosen are shown in the top left in the chart.

14) You decide the "width" of the News Manager zones; the default is x= 5 minutes before to 5 minutes after announcements; remember that News manager will close all positions x minutes before the news and will automatically resume trading x minutes after the news. If you think that the upcoming news are not likely to damage your current position (a very dangerous assumption!) you may temporarily pause the News manager by pressing its button; remember to turn it back on!

15) You may choose the level of news considered significant enough to pause trading, the default is High-Priority only. You may choose Medium (which includes High-Priority plus Mid-Priority news).

16) Attend our AutoTrader Chat room regularly to learn about and contribute improved settings; new releases and discussion of recent trade setups.

17) The best way to optimize your results is to run the strategy in market replay mode, gradually changing the parameters that you would like to test. Strategy Analyzer does not usually give reliable results because of the limited data (OHLC only) used.

18) Parameters we recommend you change to find you preferred settings according to your style of trading are:

o 18a) TrendWatcherLevel : Default is 15, increasing it will "harden" entry conditions, you can see its effects in the third "traffic lights" row ("0.4 Line").

o 18b) BarsAway: Default is 1.25, it controls  how far away the close of the bar must be from the VLine to identify a strong momentum price move, increasing it will "harden" entry conditions, you can see its effects in the fourth "traffic lights" row ("0.2 Line").

o 18c) TDotsStops: Default is 15, it controls how tight the market exits stops are relative to the bar close. Increasing it will "harden" exit conditions (staying longer in the trade).

19) A  good money management rule we recommend is to risk no more than 5% of your account balance in any trade and to adjust the number of contracts traded  rather than the stop levels to achieve that objective. You might also have a rule setting the maximum  profit and maximum loss per day before the strategy will cease trading . Balancing the strong emotions of greed and fear into a rational, not emotional  decision takes time and persistence; allowing for the trades to develop as the strategy is designed to requires a conscious effort from your part to not try to "outsmart" the Autotrader.

20) You might have noticed that NinjaTrader does not "remember" your strategy settings, it always starts with the default settings of the strategy. We have added a feature we call "Tweaker" that allows you to change important settings "on the fly" without having to reload the strategy  and allows you to save all your preferred strategy settings (including the time zones you use) in a text file that you can recall when re-launching the strategy. You may also save different settings files for different instruments or market conditions! No more manual retyping of your settings, no more worries about typos on entering parameters in a hurry:   Relax with DAX_Relax!

21) To activate Tweaker click on the toolbar button that shows the name the strategy, a table with all the strategy parameters will pop up. You may modify the settings and click Apply to update them from the next bar onwards only (the updates will show in the strategy panel); if you want to update the settings for all bars  you need to reload (F5) the strategy. Updated settings will show up in the "Yellow Sticky Note" on the left side of the chart.

22) All settings may be "played with" and  updated this way, except for Stop Losses settings which require reloading the strategy to make them effective (this is a safety feature, you should never trade without stops protecting you from catastrophic account losses). We have all experienced the panic of being in a position and experiencing connection loss to the broker, or computer freeze. Stop losses are always placed by the strategy when entering a trade, so they reside in the broker server and not in your computer.
